![]() ![]() I don’t know that it says anything really groundbreaking, but it gave the characters more dimension.Īt the same time the actual mystery component to it was less satisfying than I was expecting as well. Jewell sincerely tries to tackle the subject of the family struggling from the weight of their loss, and it gives the book a little more heft. Then She Was Gone has a clear family drama element to it, which I wasn’t expecting, but was pleasantly surprised by. ![]() I think I was expecting something similar to the other recent mystery bestsellers like The Wife Between Us or something like that. I didn’t have a ton of expectations going into Then She Was Gone. ![]() ![]() ![]() Matt Kindt is a genius, Ron Garney is an artistic god. Whether it be due to the lack of character building and big Hollywood-esque ultraviolent opening or a cliched “twist” that is given up before the series can even stand on its own two feet, I felt no connection to the book or it’s titular character.įast forward a few months to the point of being asked to review the trade I took the opportunity so I could finally dive into further issues to see if in fact the story improves. Matt Kindt is (usually) spot-on with his story telling whilst Ron Garney is always perfect in what he does and stands as one of my all time favourite comic book artists, but there was something about the first issue of BRZRKR that did not hit the right notes for me. I will say in regards to this though that when I initially picked up issue one that I really, really wanted to like it. ![]() ![]() I will be the first to admit that hearing the announcement of this series with it’s high-profile celebrity attachment caused me to have low expectations so forgive me if my thoughts come off as biased. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth might have lived a complicated relationship off-screen, but when they worked together in The Last Song years back, no one could deny that they were the “it couple”. As for Gabby and Travis, there is nothing that makes them seem out of the ordinary. However, the difference between A Walk to Remember, and The Choice is that Jamie and Landon’s romance is filled with iconic dates and romantic gestures that keep you invested in them. Two opposites attract and tragedy might keep them apart, but they are still carrying on for as long as it lasts. In addition, the story seemed like it was inspired by another Sparks book: A Walk to Remember. Yet, as we already know from previous adaptations, something happens to put their relationship to the test.Įven though the ending is a bit surprising compared to other Sparks-inspired films, the lack of chemistry between the two leads makes their bond a hard idea to buy. ![]() Although the two would strike as an improbable match, fate brings them together. The film is centered on Travis Parker ( Benjamin Walker), a womanizer not eager to settle down, and his neighbor Gabby Holland ( Teresa Palmer), a charismatic medical student who seems very happy alongside her long-term boyfriend Ryan ( Tom Welling). Starting off with the least enticing of the bunch, The Choice could’ve been more than a sappy love story, but unfortunately, it didn’t go much deeper than that. ![]() ![]() Goodman Center parents will be involved in the rally Monday afternoon. A romance that ebbs, flows, and eventually soars? Tick, tickety tick! You feel every step of Quinn and Sawyer’s second shot at love, and I finished the book with a satisfied sigh. No, you’re not seeing things – Mills & Boon published a lesbian romance. The Secret Of You And Me by Melissa Lenhardt When Dahlia and London come together, I was giddy with excitement. But what stopped me in my tracks was the feels. Yes, there’s a solid story with competition, lust, and drama. Anita Kelly shows a skilled pair of hands in mixing this story: a pinch of rich/poor trope, a teaspoon of family strife, a sprinkle of non-binary, and a splash of coming out. Make it queer, and have two characters falling in love on-screen and off? I’m in. I watch cookery reality shows by the dozen, so this made me sit up. Usually I'm not fond of books that constantly go between the past and the present, but I think it worked really well for this book. I really adored Jess and Vivi's relationship, though - they were incredibly cute, and I felt Jess's love for Vivi and how painful it was for her to lose Vivi. A lot of the side characters frustrated me, though it felt like they were pressuring Jess to just "move on" from Vivi's death, Levi especially. The Meaning of Birds doesn't skimp on how Jess struggles with everything after losing Vivi, and I could sympathize entirely with how hard it is to readjust to normal life and how Jess feels like she shouldn't be happy without Vivi. But I can understand her reactions and lashing out and isolating herself because I've been in such a similar place before. I related to Jess so much, honestly I don't struggle with anger management, and I've never lost a girlfriend or close friend. Jaye Robin Brown writes a really emotional, moving story about dealing with compounded grief - which is, like, really hard to deal with. Not because it was bad, but because it dealt with grief and the aftermath of loss. ![]() ![]() It's quite easy to see why his ex-wife (and James himself) repeatedly says it isn't love they share but he's addicted to her/sex. ![]() ![]() Once again we are treated to the angsty "love" between James and Penny - although honestly aside from some mediocre sex (that is meant to be really hot, but never gets there) there is nothing between these two. Honestly over the course of not just this book, but the other three I wish I had kept track of just how many times I read that James "lowered both his eyebrows (apparently he spends a lot of times with them raised), or how many times during sex Penny felt "the familiar warmth" of his semen, "spread up into her stomach". How many times can one author repeat the same useless drivel at a reader? Apparently in the case of this author, A LOT. ![]() ![]() ![]() I like the idea that once you do some defining, the universe is there to help. This book is funny and practical–since I read it I find that I am a bit more relaxed about the whole "project" of finding a mate. If you are looking for love and feeling discouraged or overwhelmed, I can't recommend this book enough! -D. Like a good cosmic tour-guide, DeRose explains "woo woo" concepts of manifestation (which work for anything, not just finding love) in very down-to-earth terms that stuck with me long after reading the book. ![]() Prepare to laugh, to take an honest look within, and best of all, to be taken off the market! Oh and, of course, there's a juicy love story to prime your imagination. So much more than the metaphysical mechanics of rustlin' up a mate, it's about who you become in the undertaking. Whether you're new to the Woo, or a veteran looking for a breakthrough, you'll be hard-pressed to find a more practical, fresh (or fresh-mouthed) look at the MANifestation process. ![]() |
